Guilin

Guilin is a city in southern China known for its dramatic landscape of limestone karst hills. At its center are 2 lakes, Shanhu and Ronghu, remaining from a medieval-era moat that once surrounded the city. is one of China’s most popular tourist destinations, and the epithet “By water, by mountains, most lovely, Guilin” is often associated with the city. The city was also a nexus between the central government and the southwest border, and it was where regular armies were placed to guard that border.

It’s also a cultural center. As a major center of Buddhism in the 7th century, it had many famous monasteries. Today the city has more than 10 colleges and universities. Guilin is set in a landscape of outstanding natural beauty and is renowned for its karst formations. It is listed as a state-level historical and cultural city. There are scheduled flights to major cities in China and to Japan and the countries of Southeast Asia.
